A wildlife Spectacle
Seronera is located in the centre of the massive Serengeti National Park. The name Seronera is derived from the Maasai word ‘siron’‚ meaning the place of the bat-eared fox. The Seronera Valley is a fantastic year-round game-viewing destination due to its abundant wildlife. The acacia-studded savanna is home to the famous big cats and is recognised as the best place to see lions‚ leopards and cheetah. Seronera is at its peak in the months of April to June when the herds of the Great Migration pass through the area as they head northwards.
The mountains in the region date from two periods. The Gol Mountains to the north‚ as you head towards the Serengeti‚ are exposed granite blocks over 500 million years old‚ and other freestanding mountains are volcanic in origin‚ formed during the process that created the Rift Valley 15 to 20 million years ago.
